In collaboration with the LEXIS EU project and individuals from the US National Center for Atmospheric Research and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, VESTEC is organising a workshop at SC19 around using HPC for urgent decision making. This builds directly on the BoF we had at SC18, where between 60 and 70 people attended and there was some really fruitful discussion, we well as being surprised to see how many people are involved, to some degree, in using HPC for urgent decision making.
The way we have defined it, HPC for urgent decision making covers a wide range of technical topics, from the ingestion of real time sensor data, to interaction with HPC simulations, to visualisation techniques that enable decision makers to make the correct decision first time, every time. This is one of the things that we think makes it so interesting and as such we are hoping that the workshop will see a real variety of topics discussed. Papers will be published in IEEE TCHPC, and this workshop will have a mixture of full and hot-topic paper presentations, along with a keynote talk and panel session.
The workshop is on Sunday, 17th of November, 2pm to 5:30pm, the deadline for paper submission is 14th of August (AoE) and more details can be found on the workshop website at www.urgenthpc.com
